Traffic Stop On I-44 Results In Methamphetamine Seizure

On March 11, 2007, a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper stopped an eastbound Dodge pickup truck on Interstate 44 in Jasper County for a traffic violation. The stop and subsequent investigation resulted in the seizure of approximately one pound of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $20,000.

At approximately 9:45 p.m., a 2003 Dodge pickup bearing Indiana license plates was stopped near the 22 mile-marker for a traffic violation. Several inconsistencies were found during conversations with the driver and passenger prompting the trooper to ask for consent to search the vehicle, which the driver granted. The search revealed approximately one pound of methamphetamine in a plastic bag in the bed of the pickup.

The driver, Benny O. Green, 49, of Brazil, IN, and the passenger, John W. Deal, 54, of Reelsville, IN, were arrested for second degree drug trafficking and transported to the Jasper County Jail in Carthage, MO.

The charges for which Benny O. Green and John W. Deal were arrested are mere accusations and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of these charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty it is to determine guilt or innocence. Read more at mo.gov

Did You Know?

A Request for Discovery is an information request you would make to the prosecutor
Ask usually the District Attorney, for relevant information related to your case. If you were cited for speeding, you may want information on the kind of speed measurement device the officer used to clock your vehicle, or the training records for the officer that measured your speed. A simple written request, sent via registered mail to the District Attorney's office, is usually sufficient to exercise this inquiry.
